Purchasing Department Manager

TerraLink Horticulture Inc., a successful agricultural crop inputs retailer located in Abbotsford, BC has an immediate opening to fill the position of Purchasing Department Manager.  The ideal candidate will be seeking career advancement to join a senior management team of agri-professionals working in a fast paced, dynamic business environment. 

This position requires an individual with a minimum of  10+ years of agribusiness experience (preferably related to fertilizer, crop protection or seed), a science background from a recognized university or leading agricultural college, a natural leader able to manage staff and business processes, and work comfortably in a group setting with other experienced and qualified managers and supervisors.   This position is multifaceted dealing with crop input products spanning all crops inputs uses and markets pertaining to what is grown for food, sport, recreation and beautification, mainly in British Columbia and its neighboring provinces and states.

The main markets of TerraLink are fruit and vegetable, tree fruit and grapes, professional turf and ornamental crops, consumer lawn and garden, professional greenhouse crops, forage and ranch, silviculture and municipal. The Purchasing Manager is a leader whose main duties and responsibilities relate to: 

  • Leading the Purchasing group as the department head with a goal to achieve even higher levels of organization, efficiency, communication, MRP (Materials Resource Planning) system utilization, reliability and inventory financial impact control,
  • Product Management: in a shared capacity together with the Sales Managers, vet products for suitability to meet the needs of the business and the market,
  • Quality Control: together with other managers jointly lead in the further development of corporate QC standards and apply them to vendor performance,
  • Procurement and Supply Chain: ensure that timely placement of purchase orders, product standards, vendor confirmations, payments, transportation, tracking, importation and the timely delivery of goods in order to achieve the on-time delivery performance needed while keeping product costs at competitive market-cost driven levels.
  • Inventory Control: the Purchasing Manager will not only lead procurement and the supply chain but is also the key manager in charge of inventory carry over and obsolescence control.
  • The Purchasing Manager takes the lead for the sourcing and acquisition of key fertilizer commodity ingredients working with the company CEO and Sales Managers as we fulfill the need for commodities used in manufacturing and blending fertilizers and for their sales as straight commodities to user groups.
  • Inventory Control: working with the various department heads the Purchasing Manager leads in determining amounts to be brought in to meet market demand while having room for storage and availability when required,
  • Vendor Relationships: the Purchasing Manager is a key figure in the company who along with the CEO and Sales Managers jointly manage vendor relationships, know the industry, its players and their position in it.

Senior Accountant

TerraLink Horticulture in Abbotsford is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team:

Role Description:

  • Play a leadership role to develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Provide problem solving support to non-accounting staff related to our ERP system
  • Work with senior leadership on continuing to develop a cohesive corporate culture
  • Work with administration employees to ensure timely and accurate A/R and A/P processing
  • Review the day-to-day work of four junior staff while mentoring and guiding them
  • Execute month-end closing processes and conduct or review reconciliations for GL accounts including preparing journal entries and yearend working papers while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies and procedures
  • Review financial results and prepare variance analysis
  • Manage day-to-day banking activities and prepare periodic banking reports
  • Review the process of capital asset tracking
  • Participate in project initiatives with other senior staff

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, accounting designation an asset
  • 5+ years of senior accountant experience in industry ( preferably in a manufacturing environment) or 2+ years senior accountant experience in public practice
  • A solid understanding of financial reporting and ability to work with cross functional teams is integral for this role
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team setting and meet the demands of stakeholders, management, and employees
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem solving and solid time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Team player and able to initiate corrective action in a positive manner
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Familiarity with multi-currency transactions
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

TerraLink Horticulture is a major crop supply company with locations in Abbotsford & Delta, BC. We provide producers and other commercial accounts with a wide range of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, field services, equipment, biological controls, plastics and other crop inputs, throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The Abbotsford and Delta divisions of TerraLink have openings for Customer Service Representatives at their sales desks. There are seasonal and full-time positions available at both locations.

Primary duties of the incumbent will include telephone order-taking, order processing and related duties. This will include work at both the walk-in sales counter and the order processing areas.

A degree or diploma in agriculture or related science, as well as knowledge of grass and forage seed. Or experience in the agricultural industry would also be an asset.

The candidate must be computer literate, have strong Excel skills, Word and other common software, and comfortable with mathematics. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain a BCME Pesticide Dispenser Certificate and a TDG Certificate. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.
A willingness to work flexible hours is a must. The incumbent must be willing to learn all aspects of the business and multitask when required.

Secondary language skills an asset.
